I’m a great lover of base and top coats. It bothers me no end that my sister, who can do the most amazing things with a nail art brush, doesn’t use either. WHY?!
She can’t be bothered, is usually her answer. But she has beautiful long, strong nails, from a lifetime of not-biting them. I have brittle nails that crack and snap and break in the most horrendously painful horror-movie kinds of ways. I always need a top-coat. So I found this one…
I was recently in TJ Hughes – one of those shops that sells old lady clothes and ornaments, and inexplicably, has a really great selection of discounted makeup. I’m always popping in there – my local one sells Ciate nail polish for £2, which is pretty exciting.
I picked up Barielle Professional Advanced UV Glaze Top Coat Pro, and that is a very long name.
I think it must be a discontinued product, as I couldn’t find it on the Barielle website. I paid a grand total of 99p for this top coat – a saving of about £8, I think – from what I can see, the products on the website that are similar to this cost about $16.
This is, without a doubt, the best topcoat I’ve ever used. It’s shiny and glossy, and dries almost immediately. After three days my nails are still perfect – which let me tell you is VERY unusual for me! I commit the worst nail varnish sin by picking off the polish when I get bored.
I was a little bit worried about the UV part – but I think that may be a marketing tool, because I definitely didn’t need a UV lamp to dry the polish, so no worries there!
Everything about it is just great – it’s a big bottle, and the brush is perfect for covering the whole nail in one go. Even the lid of the bottle is weighted just right so it’s easy to cap your nails without getting polish all over your fingers.
When I went back to pick up another one, there was a sad empty space where the bottles had been. Seems like someone else realised how good this top coat was!
This sounds amazing! I’ve been using the No 7 one and that has been the best one i’ve tried so far! xx

Ahh, this sounds like something that would benefit my nails! I have the worst nails prone to breaking and can never get nail varnish to last longer than a day, wish it was more readily available but 99p at T J Hughes is pretty awesome!

I love TJ Hughes, only trouble with it is you never know what you’ll find there. Can’t complain for 99p though! :)
