I’ve had a lot of struggles with my hair. Some shampoos dry it out, some make it more oily than when I started trying to wash it. Conditioner wasn’t even an option – my hair is so thin that the tiniest amount (don’t they say you’re supposed to use the size of a 10 pence piece? Who does that?) weighs it down.
When I got my Christmas job at LUSH, they recommended a couple of products for me. As you know, I love the shampoo bars – I actually don’t think I’ll be likely to go back to liquid shampoo. A couple of days ago I picked up some new conditioners and a new shampoo bar to start working intensely on sorting out my hair (cue dramatic music and a montage of me applying conditioner).
We’ll start with Retread. I use this heavy-duty conditioner once or twice a week. It contains olive, avocado and jojoba oil for shine, and it really delivers. The ends of my hair are dark blonde (a very, very old and ratty ombre – I’m definitely going to be changing up my hair soon – for the first time in about two years) and this has added a lot of dimension where it used to look a bit dry and grey and gross.
My most recent shampoo bar is Karma Komba. I’m a big fan of the Karma scent (orange and patchouli, which my Dad calls ‘hippy oil’ – hilarious…), and this shampoo bar is perfect for washing your hair in the morning, as the sweet citrus-y scent really wakes you up. The bars leave your hair feeling super clean, but happily not dry – I’ve found that a lot of ‘cleansing’ shampoos dry my hair out horribly.
My ‘everyday’ conditioners are Veganese and American Cream. I started off with Veganese, and loved it, then tried a little sample of American Cream and fell in love all over again. It’s now a battle of the conditioners (dramatic, huh?) – Veganese is lighter and more fruity, so it’s nice in the morning, but American Cream’s sweet strawberries-and-cream scent is absolutely dreamy too. Both do similar things – so I recommend buying one and getting a sample of the other, so you can see which is best for you.
I’ll be posting hair updates as I toddle off on this journey – which I’m calling ‘The Search For Perfect Hair’. Pack a bag with your best conditioners and heat-protect sprays, it’s going to be a long one.
