The 5th of November is Bonfire Night in England. It’s a night where people set fire to big piles of stuff in the name of ‘community spirit’, and set off needless amounts of fireworks. I love it. Not.
However, yesterday was when I really noticed how flipping freezing it’s getting in England. I was examining myself critically in the mirror and came up with my conundrum – my hair looked too summery.
So I popped into Superdrug, and picked up a hair dye.
Now, if you’ve seen the post I made featuring my sister Lucy, you’ll know that she has the most wonderful red hair imaginable. Enviably, hers is all natural. Mine is not, but is hopefully equally as lovely.
The first dye I picked up was this one: Superdrug Colour Vibrance (Permanent) in 8:34 Rich Copper Gold. Despite the weirdly seductive woman on the box, I guessed that it might tint my own hair and give it more of a coppery colour.
It gave me a bright pastel orange scalp instead.
I loved the colour it went at the ends (unfortunately I don’t have a picture, as I panicked and rushed out immediately – in a hat – to get a new dye), but I wasn’t too excited about my orange scalp. The hair on the top of my head was the colour of an orange highlighter pen. I was not impressed – although the rest of my hair was a nice colour. I’d recommend this dye if you want more of an extreme ‘orange’ colour, as opposed to the ‘copper’ it describes on the box.
Take 2. This time I picked up Clairol Nice & Easy (Permanent) in 5WR Natural Warm Auburn. The dye was on offer – 2 boxes for £10 – which reminded me that I should probably dye my hair extensions (clip ins, which I only wear occasionally) to match. I got 10% student discount at Superdrug with my NUS card, so the dye came to £9.
25 minutes later, as I was rinsing the bath clean of what looked like a very bloody murder (the dye coming out of my hair was literally the colour of blood and was quite alarming), my hair was finally done. I absolutely loved this dye – it didn’t dry my hair out at all, and the handy little conditioner tube it came with was specially formulated for red hair. I deliberately didn’t use the conditioner on my extensions (they get greasy very quickly – probably because they were cheap!) to see how moisturising the dye was – they feel softer than before and match my hair perfectly.
After I’d blow dried my hair and done some quick waves with my Tresemme wand, this is what my hair looked like…
As you can see – it’s a really shiny red-brown-gold colour (I’m just amazing with my hair colour descriptions), which is exactly what I wanted, to warm up my hair as the weather cools down. I’m happy that it makes me look a little older – I’m 20, but at 5″2, I often get mistaken for 14 or 15 – which is handy when I want a half-price bus ticket, but usually never at any other point in life.
It also goes well with my wardrobe, which features a lot of black. It stands out more than my dirty-blonde ends did. All in all – really happy with my hair at the moment. My next post in this series will be my top 3 hair products – so stay tuned.
