Welcome to a new post series on littlebudget – how I decorate my rented space!
I moved in 5 months ago and I’m just starting to feel like this is my home. I can’t take a trip to Asda or IKEA without picking up some bits, and woe betide my bank account when Primark had a homeware sale!
I’m proud of how my home looks – and of course, because it’s me and I love a good bargain, everything is purse-friendly!
So here’s episode 1, if you will: the accents in my bedroom!
On the top of my white IKEA malm chest of drawers, I’ve gone for a simplistic, minimal look. My wardrobe is white too (not pictured, because it was cheap, and therefore not the prettiest thing you’ve ever seen), so I wanted to keep the colour scheme white and metallic with pops of texture. Am I making it seem like I know what I’m talking about? Hope so.
I love plants – although I’m not a very good plant mother. They tend to get slowly brown and crispy and then I finally notice them, feel terrible and give them a burial… in the bin. This fern from IKEA is pretty sturdy; I mist it with water a few times a day and it’s happy enough.
Now for the bed (aka my favourite place on Earth). Again I’ve gone for texture rather than colour, and I love relaxing here! The bed was already in the flat when I moved in, so the rather battered leather headboard wasn’t my first choice!
I always buy my bedding from Primark – it washes really well (and dries quickly!), keeps its shape, and it’s affordable enough for me to pick up a new set if I accidentally drop black nail varnish on my pillowcase.
I’ve gone for this gorgeous thick luxury throw, which was £12 in my local store. I wanted something fluffy and luxurious without the massive price tag, so this one was perfect! I love how it looks against my white sateen striped duvet cover.
I went for a super-budget option when it came to covering my blanket box at the end of the bed. I use this plain, orangey-coloured wooden crate from IKEA to store bedding, jumpers and blankets, but the colour looks vile in my monochrome-based room! I covered the box with this £3 black throw.
So there we go – those are my favourite bedroom accents! I think they fit perfectly with the drizzly weather we’ve been having over in the North East – keeping me warm and cosy til next Spring!
