I love a good primer. There’s something really satisfying about how smooth and perfected your skin looks even before you put foundation on, so I use a primer every day.
Has anyone else noticed how expensive primers are, though?!
The first primer I ever used was by GOSH, and it retailed for about £14. To this day I have no idea where it came from (I have a feeling someone might have accidentally put it in my bag at school instead of their own, because I don’t remember buying it!), but it was a revelation.
Here’s a little overview of my favourite primers for under £10.
Rimmel Fix & Perfect, Technic “Smooth It” & Rimmel “Stay Matte”
I picked these 3 because of their different consistencies – I’ve tried gel-like primers and they feel a bit oily for my skin, so I prefer a cream primer or a liquid one.
Rimmel Fix & Perfect is probably my favourite; it’s not overly matte, which is nice in Winter to give you a bit of life in your skin. It’s a thinner consistency, more watery than the Rimmel Stay Matte one. I paid around £7 for this one in a buy one, get one free sale in Superdrug.
I actually really love this Technic “Smooth It” primer. I picked it up in TJ Hughes for £3.99 and it’ll last me ages. The cream product inside is a pretty baby pink colour that doesn’t come off on the skin (it just looks cute!). This one would be best for oily skin, as it’s pretty thick. A little goes a long way!
When I’m having a bad skin day, I always go for Stay Matte by Rimmel. It’s thicker than Fix & Perfect, and creates more of a smooth base. I get a lot of redness and irritation on my cheeks (which is actually getting worse, and I need to do something about it) and this calms it down nicely so I can apply foundation flawlessly on top.
So, what do you think? Do you use a primer? Which are your favourite ones?
Hiya – I love primers – can’t go a day without them! I’ve done a review of the Technic MEGA BLUSH and MEGA BRONZE if you’d like to see it:
